Creating an exclusive McLaren MP4/5B Miniature by ÍCON: Precision Craftsmanship & Collector’s Tribute of Ayrton Senna’s legendary car is more than a technical project — it is a commitment to precision, historical respect, and dedicated craftsmanship. From the first sketches to the final touches, every step was designed to deliver a unique piece honoring one of the most iconic cars in Formula 1 history.
IN-DEPTH RESEARCH AND DESIGN
The development began with an in-depth research phase, analyzing the MP4/5B’s proportions, shapes, surfaces, and signature design elements. This extensive study established the technical foundation needed to recreate the car with absolute fidelity for a highly demanding and exclusive client.
ENGINEERING AND PRODUCTION TECHNIQUES
For the components that required extreme dimensional accuracy, we used CNC machining. This process allowed us to shape metal and other materials within very tight tolerances, ensuring perfect fitment and the structural feel that echoes the real car, even at a reduced scale.
CUSTOM DECALS AND FINAL TOUCHES
Other elements of the miniature were crafted using 3D printing, chosen for its capability to produce complex shapes and ultra-fine details. By combining machined parts with printed ones, we achieved the ideal balance between strength, geometric precision, and production agility.
AN EMOTIONAL TRIBUTE
Once the raw parts were completed, we moved into one of the most essential phases: hand painting. The original MP4/5B colors were meticulously recreated, layer by layer, achieving correct brightness, saturation, and contrast. Each coat was applied with precision to ensure smoothness, depth, and visual consistency.
In addition to painting, several metallic components received individualized finishing work, enhancing their texture, weight, and realism. These details help bring an authentic presence to the miniature when observed up close or handled.
To complete the visual identity, we developed custom decals, recreated to match the exact graphics used on Senna’s McLaren MP4/5B. Every logo, number, and marking was manually applied and aligned with millimetric accuracy, preserving the iconic look of the original car.
